Spartans Fall to Cardinal Mooney at Homecoming Game

The Boardman football team lost a hard fought battle to Cardinal Mooney on homecoming night with a score of 28-27. In the first quarter, Terrence Thomas started off the game with a 97 yard kick off return touchdown. Tommy Fryda then kicked for the field goal and got the extra point. Mooney responded back with a touchdown and field goal to even out the score with 6:42 left in the first quarter. During the rest of the first half both teams played tough defense resulting in no additional scores by half time. Mooney scores the first points of the second half with a 14-7 lead. With 00:28 left in the third quarter Zach Ryan passed to Cam Thompson for a touchdown. Fryda kicked for another point and a score of 14-14. Mooney came back with a touchdown and field goal making the score 21-14. In the last minutes of the fourth quarter Sean O’horo ran a touchdown and Fryda kicked for another point evening the score to 21-21 and leading the game into overtime. The Cardinals scored the first touchdown of overtime giving them a 28-21 lead. Thomas scored the last touchdown of the night bringing the score to 28-27. The Spartans failed to get the two point conversion to beat the Cardinals. Before the game began, Rachel Valko was crowned the 2019 Homecoming Queen.
