Varsity softball is currently 9-7 overall, and they hold a 5-2 record in the conference. The team traveled to Myrtle Beach over spring break to play in the Grand Strand Tournament, where they went 3-1. Senior, Ashley Saxton said, “Our team is full of hardworking girls who are determined to succeed and play whatever role is needed of them to help our team!” Recently, the Lady Spartans won two games against Lakeside. They won 10-0 and 19-5. In the first game, Madison Lester struck out sixteen and only gave up one hit in six innings. On the offense, Alicia Saxton went 1-3, Lester went 2-3, and Vanessa Roush went 1-4. In game two, the girls had an all around team effort with 19 hits. Dana Haus led the offense by going 4-6 at the plate. Lester followed by going 3-4 with a triple, a double, and five RBIs. On April 25th the Spartans fell to Newton Falls 4-3. Jennifer Taraszewski was solid on the mound, giving six hits, but no earned runs. Lester and Alicia Saxton both hit solo home runs to assist in the scoring. The Lady Spartans fell to the undefeated Bulldogs from Poland in a hard-fought battle on April 26th. Offensively, the effort was put to the test with 11 hits by Lester, Alicia Saxton, Haus, Jenna Olexa, and Roush. Poland answered the call with three runs in the seventh inning to finish the game. The team is headed toward the end of season and playoffs with high hopes.
