The Boardman High swim team has been in the water since late October, with a great start to their season. This year, coach Carlo Cordon has created a theme that he believes depicts the expectations of being a swimmer as well as to get the teammates to cope with the hard early morning workouts. “We started the season off with some general goals that we believe we can reach,” stated head coach Cordon. “These goals include academic, family, community and of course swimming. We borrowed our theme, IGY6 from WWI fighter pilots which loosely means ‘I’ve got your back.’ We stress the team first mentality and how we must all lean on each other to help us accomplish our goals. They work hard and sometimes swimming close to 700 yards a night, six days a week. Plus Monday and Wednesday mornings before school. We work with highly motivated kids!”

Swim team captains on the girls team include Mikel Flatley, Jennah Markovitch, Jordan Jones, MacKenzie Widrig, and Ali Kuras. Captains on the boy’s side include Andy Beichner and Mason Rassega. “All of them come with experience and all bring to the table unique leadership qualities,” explained coach Chad DeAngelo.

Both teams took victory at the NEAC and AAC league meet. Noah Basista and Mikel Flatley took, “Male and Female swimmers of the meet.”

The swimmers and divers that have the potential to move on to the District tournament include: Gizzy Kelso, Jordan Jones, Madison Riccuiti, Mikel Flatley, Jennah Markovitch, Allysa DiNapoli, Ali Kuras, Sarah Varga, Abby Yocum, Ella Huston, and Hayley Ho. Athletes on the boys side include Teddy Anzevino, Noah Basista, Matthew DunLany, River Flatley, Will Linker, Siman Mascola, Masson Rassega, Jordan Stackpole, and freshman Carter Cailor.  The entire team is excited for a great and challenging season.
