On Dec.1 over 4,000 people gathered for holiday activities and to watch the annual parade and tree lighting take place in Youngstown.

There were activities setup for families, including pictures with Santa and free admission to OH WOW!. The parade began at 6:30 p.m. and was led by the Youngstown Police Department followed by a group of veterans. Seven high school marching bands were in attendance and performed during the parade, as well.

Iqra Imran, a sophomore, said, “There were a few bands that played, and I really liked watching them. They were really good.”

The parade ended when Santa Claus was pulled in a horse-drawn sleigh. The night came to a close with the lighting of the Christmas tree at 7:30 on Federal Street.

Overall, this year’s event was a huge success and the Youngstown community cannot wait for next year.
