The baseball team traveled to Cene Park to take on Akron Ellet in OHSAA playoff action Thursday evening.

The 3-seeded Spartans came into the district semifinal game after clinching a big win and some revenge over Stow, who previously knocked Boardman out of the playoffs last year. Akron Ellet, the 7-seed, played tough in the early going.

Just trailing 2-0, the Orangemen would tie the game at 2-2 at the top of the fourth inning after hitting a homerun. But the Spartans would answer with a 10-0 run that started at the bottom of the fourth.

It began after Senior Bobby Mackovick hit a two-run double. Following this up, the team would score two more runs.

Akron Ellet was able to stop the bleeding through the fifth inning. But at the bottom of the sixth, Boardman would score six more runs, which effectively mercy’d the Orangemen and ended their season.

The Spartans won the game by a score of 12-2, advancing to their first district title appearance since 2002. The district championship will take place at 5 p.m. at Cene Park against Walsh Jesuit.
