Ordering a new coffee

Quite recently, my close comrade, senior Simon Pusateri, cello extraordinaire and coffee aficionado, introduced me to a new way of coffee consumption: the Go Cube. This coffee gummy candy came on the market in the fall of 2016 by the Nootrobox company. Go Cubes can be purchased in packs of four and resemble large gumdrops decked in the signature sugar coating as well. Each candy contains a whopping 50 mg of caffeine and two pieces average the same amount of caffeine as a full cup of coffee. They come in drip, latte and mocha flavors.

However, the primary difference between your Starbucks doubleshot espresso caramel mocha swirl machiatto with coconut milk and a dash of cinnamon and whipped cream and a Go Cube- aside from the annoyed barista-  is the type of energy one’s body receives. Instead of a jittery caffeine and sugar high, the Go Cube releases a “calming caffeine” similar to the effects of green tea.

In order to get a better understanding of how Go Cube’s would be received in a school and work setting, I had a few coffee loving test subjects try them for me.

My first trial run was with the one and only Mr. Eric Simione, who drinks coffee twice a day with cream and sugar. After one bite, he said, “That’s a horrifying aftertaste!” He expressed that he did feel a burst of energy about five minutes in. “I would recommend this for effect, not for taste.”

Then I tested the Go Cube on senior Caden Kasler, a devout black coffee drinker. Upon one bite, he grimaced and simply said, “Those are gross.” They gave him a little less energy than a normal cup of coffee. “If you need quick energy, it would work.”

Finally, seniors Nicolette Martino and Madison Lucansky tried these items. They could not finish their Go Cubes and noted that they felt little to no increase in their energy levels.

If you are a big coffee fan, check out Go Cubes and see if they work for you!
